Using Raymond Roussel’s novel Locus Solus as a starting point, this collaboration explores what
happens if you use a LARP’s (live-action-role-play) speculative fiction as a documentary tool, as a
way of approaching a specific site. In this case the defunct Apollo cinema, the Villa Tina and the
adjoining garden in Bellaria on the Adriatic coast of Italy. Merging local myths, family history,
collective memories and physical facts with the array of characters and inventions in Roussel’s
Locus Solus resulted in a 48 hour LARP in which all the collaborators partook. Locus Solus was
initiated as a workshop together with the Filmklasse at Kunsthochschule Mainz in 2019.
Locus Solus is a presentation of a long time in the making collaborative work between coyote and Tobias Becker, Laslo Chenchanna, Simone Eisele, Alice Glagau, Yun Heo, Kara Hondong, Ella Johansen, Swan Lee, Sophie Meurer, Danijel Sijakovic, John Skoog, Marcello Spada and Emil Wudtke.
